LANGAR

As part of the Academy's continued work to strengthen good interfaith relations, increase awareness of the different faith communities around the UK and wider world, and to increase our understanding between people of religious and non-religious beliefs.

During this time Interfaith week, the children explored a range of different religions/faiths through their RE sessions. Moreover, the children from Reception, Year 3 and Year 5 hosted a Langar within our school Hall on Wednesday 20th November 2019.

The concept of langars was initiated centuries ago by Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion. During our Interfaith week, it will be Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary. At the Langar, no one goes hungry – and everybody gets a meal regardless of caste, creed or religion. The food items are donated by the community.

The Hall was open from 9:30 to 10:30 and all of the community was welcome to come and share something to eat with our Reception, Year 3 and Year 5 children. The children hosted the community, served them food, tidied up afterwards and conversed with our guests.

It was not on the scale of 80,000 people, but our visitors and children did the Academy proud!
