YEAR 4 EDUCATIONAL VISIT
TO STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT
This term, Owls have been learning all about ‘Conflict and Resolution.’ In particular, they have been focusing on WW1 and WW2.
On 13th March, they had the opportunity to visit the Staffordshire Regiment Museum to further their learning with some hands-on experiences.
In the hands of a knowledgeable guide, children took part in a range of activities including exploring the trenches, trying on and learning about soldier’s uniforms, handling deactivated weapons that were used in the war and even simulated a Blitz attack in the museum’s interactive Anderson Shelter. We all had an excellent day and came back to school with some interactive experiences to further our learning inside the classroom.
Quotes
Oscar – I enjoyed the trench experience because you got to climb ladders and look at the equipment soldiers would have used. I enjoyed it because it was just like the soldiers would have experienced.
Eloise – I loved the trip and really want to go back there soon. The trenches were really good because I could imagine exactly what it was like for the soldiers. I learned a lot about how WW2 was different to WW1.
Lauren – I enjoyed the trenches and the outdoor activities. I also loved dressing up. It was great!
Becky (Jacob’s mum) – I joined Year 4 on their recent trip to Staffordshire Regiment Museum. The volunteers had a huge wealth of knowledge, which they shared with the children. They learnt all about life in the trenches and the true realities of life in war time. The children asked lots of questions and showed great knowledge from their classroom lessons. This trip helped further cement all that learning and allowed them to really understand what it was like for the service men and women, for their families and civilians during war time. A great learning experience for all!
